A vintage picture postcard entitled 'The view from Grenfell Avenue'.
A vintage picture postcard entitled "The view from Grenfell Avenue".

Using today's landmarks, the photographer is standing in the vicinity of Grenfell and Audley Streets looking in the direction of Forest Hills. The road that curves across the picture was called Hillside Avenue, but it is not the one we know today. This Hillside Avenue ran from 118th Street up to Union Turnpike and it can be seen in an old map of the Richmond Hill Golf Course. Barely visible on the extreme left side of the picture (to the left of the street light, beyond Hillside Avenue) is a kettle pond which used to exist near Beverly Road and Park Lane.
