From Grenfell Street

This view is from Grenfell Street looking south on Lefferts Boulevard. In the circa 1914 picture of so long ago, the newly opened Homestead Building is still intact and the enormous residential and commercial development we see today lay undreamed of decades in the future. The distant building is an old home that once stood atop an elevated piece of property at the north east corner of today's Lefferts Boulevard and Abingdon Road. The house was torn down many years ago and, in 1948, the Adath Yeshurun Synagogue went up in its place.

Circa 1914 picture courtesy of Vincent Seyfried.
