Taken 17 years before the crash, this 1933 photograph shows the stretch of Long Island Railroad tracks running eastward over the Metropolitan Avenue underpass and on into Jamaica. The first car of the stalled train came to a stop about 42 feet short of the bridge signal ahead. The last car of the train would have been behind the photographer, about even with 125th Street. This photograph was taken during daylight hours. The crash occurred at night.
