John Budion

The black and white picture shows the home of stonecutter, John Budion. The house was built in 1901 near the site of today's Kew Gardens Plaza Apartments. In 1913, the Kew Gardens Corporation decided Budion's house was an eyesore and paid him to get out. It took 8 days to physically move his house to its new location at Newtown Road (today's Kew Gardens Road) and Augustina Avenue (today's 83rd Avenue) during which time Budion continued to live there. This area also went by the name Spolan's Lot.
