Mystery on 118th Street

The article to the right is from the July 5, 1911 New York Times. The subject of the story, Charles C. Protheroe, was the law partner of Alrick Man, the founder of Kew Gardens. Protheroe's Kew Gardens house, shown above, was located on 118th Street (once called Park Street) directly across from the Man house. The Man house is almost certainly the other mansion referred to in the Times article. The photograph above was likely taken a decade or more before the events related in the story. The view is looking north to Metropolitan Avenue.

The Featured Photograph will change every Sunday and Wednesday. Email me if there is a Kew Gardens location that you would like to see featured here.
