Ryan's Rendezvous

Ryan's Rendezvous was a carabet located on Queens Boulevard at 83rd Avenue close to the site of the present day Criminal Court. Its patrons wined, dined and danced the night away in the years after Prohibition was repealed. In 1943, the Rendezvous was destroyed by a fire of unknown origin. The blaze came 8 months after its owner, Bert Ryan (also known as Vibert LaBreque), was sentenced to 9 months in prison for filing fraudulent income tax returns for the business. It was his second conviction for tax fraud, but only his first fire.
