At Union Turnpike

"In 1880, hunters crossing through Union Turnpike, noticed smoke issuing through the woods, about 500 feet from the road ... . [T]o their astonishment, [they] came across, 'a cave and Caveman, they described the cave as exceptional, both, for its size, and, comfort.  The owner was a German [who] stated that he had lived in the cave undetected for several years. After it became known, that a cave had been discovered the spot was visited by hundreds."
