South of Metropolitan Avenue

Today, in the words of Barry Lewis, "Apartment houses frame the vista up Lefferts Boulevard". Eighty years ago, it was the large, rambling, Victorian style homes of Richmond Hill that did so.

The circa 1915 photograph was taken from the southeasterly corner of Lefferts and Metropolitan looking south. The first home on the left marks the site of today's Lefferts House Apartments. The next house - the one with the turret - is today the site of multiple dwellings, as you will see on the next page.

The 1952 photograph shows essentially the same view, only from a much closer perspective. The house with the turret is behind the Lefferts House Apartment Building.
